As
Caribbean Peoples we are characterized by a number
of circumstances which have defined who we are
at this time in our development. We celebrate with
the exceptions among us who have made us proud
through their own individual excellence. The reality,
however, is that, for the vast majority of us,
the characteristics that mostly define us now do
not necessarily portray us to our best potential.
Accordingly, from this point of view, there is
a case for us to re visit with ourselves and define
a new collective vision as we chart new paths to
self, and national development
Some of the characteristics that define us now
may be any or all of the following:
1) A strong consumption orientation. We spend
to gain attention where others tend to conserve
and or create new goods and services for the
markets of the world
2) Absence of a long term development perspective
at the family or business level
3) Absence of strong tradition in wealth creation
for the medium and long term
4) Very tenuous identity with the developmental
disciplines of the sciences, mathematics and
information technology
5) A similar weak identity with ‘the
need to know’ curiosity that drives research
and development (R&D) which constitute
the bedrock of the scientific and economic
progress of many societies. Hence, in a world
where much of its products and services come
out of well funded laboratories, our existence
is still predicated on unskilled labour and
undifferentiated basic agricultural products
for which we must compete very fiercely with
other similarly impoverished states for dwindling
markets
Not surprisingly, the vast majority of us spend
our lives working for money without getting to
the stage of putting any money to work for us.
Accordingly, we mostly get into our retirement
without a secure source of income and find that
we have “more years” than the financial
wherewithal to fund them in dignity. Additionally,
in time, we make our transition without leaving
a financial foundation on which our progeny can
build.
Our Vision
A new Caribbean where our propensity to create
family wealth and live at a higher standard moves
within the Top Ten in the world within a generation
or two.
Our Mission
To encourage Caribbean Peoples to cultivate
a ‘can do’ persona and to
‘
grow’ the number of Caribbean Investors
in Caribbean Stocks and Bonds (wherever in the
world they live and work).
